Placement summary
Thistle Systems are looking to hire a graduate with exceptional CAD skills to work on two important business projects. You must be skilled in Autocad and be committed to a career in product design and looking to develop your skills in a fast-paced environment with an ambitious company. This is a 12 month placement initially and will be based at our head office in Cumbernauld. A permanent role may be available for the right candidate.
Job description
Project Description
Project One:
We have recently established a partnership with a global company who will manufacture the racking and provide us with exclusivity, initially in Scotland but with the potential to expand this to the UK and Ireland.
As part of the partnership, our Senior Project Team has been instrumental in the design of new advanced engineering racking solutions to meet the specific needs of Thistle’s Max the Cube approach – therefore providing them with even more competitive advantage in the market.
However, these unique tweaks and developments have meant that we do not have specific product data sheets to accompany quotes, proposals and reinforce project presentations.
With limited availability of photography due to the products being fresh to market, we require you to use your skills to create the CAD block components and 3D drawings to be done in order to support the new product datasheets.
We have already trademarked the name Maxi Cube Racking and intend to use this as a core part of their future marketing.
Project Two:
Our Max the Cube approach has transformed the way we are approaching the market, with a greater emphasis on designing and developing bespoke solutions to suit client needs. Our current approach is to work with their manufacturing partners to design the solution. Whilst we have an excellent working relationship with our manufacturing partners, new product development can be a slow process.
To try and combat this and to be even more dynamic and innovative within the existing markets, the second project will see you providing professional support in the product development process which tend to be developments of existing solutions and a combination of different manufacturer's products as well as bespoke products. You would be working alongside project managers to deploy your CAD skills for new drawings and undertake initial costings.
Example
Product Development
We are receiving a growing number of
enquiries for racking to hold IBC containers, which store large volumes of
liquids, such as chemicals. Due to the nature of the products being stored,
these racking solutions must incorporate storage bunds to accommodate leaks and
total IBC failures.
Whilst we are able to provide racking with
the associated bunds to suit internal solutions, many clients are looking for
an external racking solution. This would require designing a structure which
would incorporate a roof structure with the option to have lockable mesh cage
doors.
You would need to be
able to work with information and product material provided to design the
structure in CAD, draw it up into a 3D solution which could be used to present
to clients and gain costing information from suppliers.
Placement Objectives
To provide professional CAD support to enable us to establish a new approach to new and existing product development. If the projects are delivered successfully, then we will consider implementing this new approach on a wider basis.
