What are HNCs and HNDs?
Depending on your project you can make the placement available to graduates with either an HNC or HND qualification. A key distinction for many HNC and HND graduates is the provided standard and level of practical skills gained during their studies, making them a highly attractive option for employers. These practical skills allow for a quick and easy transition to the world of work.
Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) are work-related courses developed by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) in partnership with Scottish colleges, universities, industry and commerce.
Both courses are undergraduate qualifications and a HND is classified as SCQF Level 8 and one level above an HNC (SCQF Level 7). HNC/D courses are delivered by colleges and recognised by numerous Scottish universities as the equivalent of the first two years of a degree course.
They are vocationally-focussed and provide students with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge in their chosen area. Courses cover a range of subjects including accounting, business administration, childcare, computing, engineering, hospitality, creative industries, paralegal studies and sports and leisure.
