A student placement through ScotGrad will give you important work experience and enhance your CV. It is important to check that you are eligible before applying.

Highlands and Islands Student Placement Programme

You can apply if:

  • You are studying an undergraduate course at a UK university, having completed at least the first year of your studies. You don't have to be in your penultimate year to apply.
  • You have completed a HNC or HND, and intend to continue studying.
  • Or you have completed an undergraduate degree and intend to study further at postgraduate level (Masters, PhD).


Highlands and Islands Gaelic Summer Placement Programme

Eligibility is as above, plus you must be fluent in both written and spoken Gaelic.

Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme


To be eligible for the Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme you must be a first, second, or third year student studying an undergraduate life sciences degree at a Scottish university. For specific university course eligibility please click here.

International Business Explorer

To be eligible for a Scottish Enterprise International Business Explorer placement, you must be currently studying a postgraduate qualification at a Scottish university.

Are you an international student?

If you require a visa to work full time in the UK, please note that you are responsible for arranging this yourself and ensuring compliance with UK Visas and Immigration requirements, e.g. for a Tier 4 student visa, students may only work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time and then full time, following submission of dissertation. The full time element will be approximately three months, before expiration of VISA (Non EU students only).
