Scotmas Limited are a specialist manufacturer of water disinfection systems for municipal, industrial and offshore applications Worldwide. Based in Kelso in the Borders, we are currently seeking a graduate chemical / process engineer to join our multidisciplinary team developing new products, and delivering project engineered water treatment solutions throughout Europe and the Middle East. This is a 12 month placement initially.

Project Description
Working alongside a technical team of chemists, microbiologists, field engineers and environmental specialists, you will be responsible for the design, documentation and delivery of water disinfection solutions for a variety of applications. Our varied and multidisciplinary work demands that you have a flexible, but detail driven approach, putting safety and quality first.
Placement Objectives
Our work is dynamic, varied and led by on-going investments in research and development - which you will be help to deliver. A flexible approach and ability to learn new skills "on the job" is an essential requirement for this role.
Role Description
Over the course of the placement you will gain experience in our industry and assist with the delivery of 2 key projects for the company - Firstly, a new range of water treatment equipment for sale to trade, requiring CE marking, regulatory approvals and documentation; the second being a bespoke, custom engineered solution for a client based on chlor-alkali technology. This aspect will involve regulatory liaison, specification, procurement and construction supervision.
You will work with an experienced team throughout the project.
Qualifications
Ideally, you will hold a Degree with honours or equivalent in Chemical or Process Engineering, and be working towards chartership with the IChemE or CIWEM
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
Aside from your degree requirements, we require a strong work ethic, and personable and friendly demeanor. As your work will involve close interactions with clients and key technical partners, a strong track record in customer service (summer or voluntary work) would be considered advantageous.
Desirable Skills
Aside from basic process engineering skills, demonstrable experience and strength in the following areas will be considered a distinct advantage for this role:
- CAD skills to produce and edit P&IDs / 2D General Arrangement Drawings as needed
- Strong Document Control Skills
- Manual writing
- Commercial Awareness & Job / Tender Costing Experience
- Customer service, written & oral communications skills
- Working Knowledge of CE and DNV Certification requirements
- Working knowledge of PLC and process control solutions
- Strong team ethos with friendly and outgoing personality

This role is located at our engineering premises in Kelso, where we employ 15 people. You may have access to temporary accommodation to assist in the transition to our area.
We are an accredited Investor in Young People organisation with a strong training and development ethos. A full training package will be provided to assist with the transition to our specialist industry.
The placement will be considered by the company as a starting point for a permanent job offer, provided the project is delivered successfully.
