Placement summary
Impact Solutions are provider of product testing and plastic consultancy serving customers across the globe. We are looking for a practical but numerate graduate to undertake the pressure and stress extrapolations required for Hydrostatic pressure testing and also to prepare and monitor the individual pipes required for the testing.
Based at the company's laboratory in Grangemouth, for an initial 12 month contract, the intention would be for you to turn this into a commercially profitable project during the placement and establish the need to continue this work in the future.

Project Description
Hydrostatic testing is required by manufacturers of plastic pipe who need to ensure that the products meet the long term performance required by asset owners. The long term performance can be extrapolated by the use of pressure testing at a range of temperatures in accordance with strict ISO standards.
Impact are one of a relatively small number of accredited labs that can undertake this work internationally and we are looking at this project to help us improve our capabilities in this important area and it will require both a keen numerical mind and a practical ability to prepare the multiple samples required for the extrapolation.
Placement Objectives
This placement is aimed at helping us to enhance the hydrostatic testing capabilities within the business.
Role Description
Main Tasks:
- Master the basics of hydrostatic testing, including the operation and maintenance of the test rig
- Design a test programme that meets the requirement of the ISO standard and the asset owners requirements
- Preparation of test samples to be used in the test and the monitoring of these samples throughout the test phase
- Extrapolation of test data to predict life time performance
- Prepare reports for stakeholders
- Calculate the test pressures required to provide extrapolation data
- Calculate predicted lifetime of the pipes based on failures times
- Operate and maintain pressure testing equipment
Qualifications
HNC/HND or Degree qualification in a numerate related science discipline would be perfect for this placement

- Proven mechanical aptitude
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to undertake complex calculations and extrapolation's
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Computer literate
- Strong problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good team-working skills
Desirable Skills
- Full driving licence would be a distinct advantage
