Placement summary

Houston Bottling and Co-Pack provides key services to the Whisky sector. The company is seeking a talented and enthusiastic graduate to help lead the delivery of a transformational change programme which will lead to a significant modernisation of the core company ERP system. This is a vital business project and will suit a graduate with an IT background. The placement is for 12 months and will be based at the company sites in Dumbarton and Renfrew, near Glasgow.

Project Description

This project will revolutionise the support systems used by the company, which will play a key part in future-proofing the business, improving the efficiency of background processes and further improve the quality of service to customers. Success will be determined by staff embracing and utilising the new system in their day to day work.

The right candidate will be a self-starter and will form a key part of the integration team which will include working closely with the IT supplier throughout design and implementation of the new system, deliver training to existing staff, assessing staff reporting requirements, assist in the creation and production of reports, forming a key part of the company internal helpdesk support function.

Overall, the project is aimed at delivering in the following areas:

  • Analysing the existing computer systems of the organisation
  • Evaluate individual and organisational user requirements, particularly with regard to compliance issues
  • Integrating a new system which will provide a single source of truth, replacing several outdated non-integrated systems
  • Improve efficiency throughout the organisation by reducing duplication of data
  • Improve planning and reporting processes, providing management with real time information to drive the business forward
  • Enhancing the company's presentation and availability of information for customers

Placement Objectives

  • Review and document our current IT systems and procedures
  • Assist with research, development and implementation of new company system
  • Provide a recognised internal point of contact for IT issues

Role Description

You will join the company as the primary internal contact for IT related issues, providing a key interface between internal teams and external IT support. In addition, you will work closely with the project manager to deliver the transformational project introducing a new system to the business, providing hands on support for internal project teams as well as the external system provider.

 Main Tasks:

  • Provide hands on support to project implementation team
  • Identify requirements within the business that can be developed as part of the new system implementation
  • Develop user friendly reports from this system to meet business and customer needs
  • To progress and promote the use of the new system within the business
  • Understand and develop reporting tools to provide accurate up to date management information on the company performance
  • Support the roll out of mobile and production line devices to collect data from the production environment
  • To assist in the creation and development of identified reports
  • Carry out data management tasks on the company’s systems, website and network
  • Provide a first point of contact for staff experiencing IT issues

Qualifications

An HND or degree in an IT related discipline

Skills / Experience

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of IT systems and practical repair techniques
  • Good understanding of computer networking, TCP/IP, firewalls and routing
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications ODBC report writing (SQL Server Reporting Services)
  • Knowledge of network and Email administration
  • First class problem solving skills
  • Good team player with ability to work on own as well as with teams

Desirable Skills

  • An understanding of accounts procedures
  • SQL query language
  • Good knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript web development
  • Visual Basic
  • Full driving licence and own transport
