Acair Ltd, based in Stornoway on the Western Isles, is looking to recruit a Graduate Marketing and Communications Assistant to take the initiative to promote the brand and increase international sales. The Graduate will develop a 3-year international marketing strategy as well as seeking out new trade contacts through industry networks. This role is for 6 months, but there may be an opportunity for continuing employment at the end of the placement.

Acair Ltd aims to build on its cultural authenticity whilst ensuring a modern outlook. In order to achieve this Acair Ltd has ambition to utilise progressive technology to become a major player in Gaelic communications. To ensure these ambitions are realised a number of key points were identified to aid its delivery and these are:
- Develop effective marketing messages and incorporate into appropriate marketing materials.
- Evolve the website to reflect marketing messages; incorporating e-commerce capability.
- Analyse sales by customer and establish on-going recording system.
Acair Ltd is focussed on challenging traditional work practices to achieve production efficiencies. This has resulted in a steady increase in titles per annum with 23 this year compared to 14 new titles in the previous year. The challenge now is to increase sales and specifically within the international markets.
This Placement seeks to:
- Research and grow in international markets using the new website and other marketing tools and by seeking out new trade contacts through industry networks.
- Research and produce a series of e–books, including a range of titles from the back list and new titles in production.
Specific tasks of the placement will include:
- Month 1 Research Marketing strategy and agree actions and outcomes. Review with staff team by month 1 week 3.
- Month 1 Research potential international market in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States including retailers, wholesalers, Scottish diaspora organisations, Gaelic clubs and societies. Complete draft list and agree priorities by month 2 week 1
- Month 1 Review Social media. Agree content and maintenance programme by month 2 week 1
- Month 2 Interrogate Google analytics to track initial market responses. Review stats by month 3 week 1
- Month 2 Research e-book production. Present options to staff team by week 4
- Month 2 Prepare a newsletter (number 2) and circulate by week 2
- Month 3 New e-book series launched. Assess market response by month 4 week 1
- Month 3 Maintain regular actions listed above. Evaluate outcomes from activities to date by week 4
- Month 4 Review newsletter and social media reach and action to improve as required.
- Month 4 Research content for newsletter (number 3)
- Month 5 Complete and circulate newsletter by week 2
- Month 5 Analyse sales and general reach of international market strategy. Report by week 3
- Month 6 Agree structure and content of newsletter (number 4). Complete by week 2
- Month 6 Agree 3 year international marketing strategy. Complete plan by week 3
- Month 6 Complete handover guide, detailing templates and actions required to maintain
This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.
Qualifications
It is essential that the potential graduate is fluent in Gaelic language, both written and oral. Candidates with relevant marketing experience and/or qualifications will be considered for this role.
