In the Highlands and Islands, ScotGrad delivers the Summer Placement Programme on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. This programme offers paid student summer placements in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland which last from eight to twelve weeks between June and September each year.
HIE also offers Gaelic student summer placements through ScotGrad, which are the same as above, but have a focus on maximising Gaelic as an economic asset for the host organisation.
When you are successfully placed on a summer placement you will have the opportunity to attend a two day ScotGrad Residential Training Course free of charge to sharpen your business skills.
All successful candidates will deliver a well-defined project for an organisation based in the Highlands and Islands. This provides valuable work experience whilst delivering tangible outcomes and making a real impact on the organisation. Towards the end of your placement you will be required to submit a short written report on your experience and achievements. You will also be expected to attend the Summer Placement Programme Closing Ceremony and deliver a presentation to showcase your project and be in with a chance of winning a prize!
Examples of summer placement projects include:
-
Designing and developing a new product or service, or adapting one for an overseas market
-
Developing new business processes and getting them up and running, e.g. finance systems, ordering/purchasing systems, new website development etc.
-
Strategic marketing plans, targeted marketing and market research e.g. development or research of new international markets, exporting a product or service
-
Utilising digital opportunities to improve business performance
