Community Energy Scotland
Marion O'Hara of Community Energy Scotland is very clear about the positive effects of introducing a student placement with new ideas to her organisation, as she explains.
What's your company's background?
Community Energy Scotland is an independent charity and social enterprise. Our aim is to build confidence, resilience and wealth at community level in Scotland through sustainable energy development. It is Scotland's only national charity dedicated to community energy development.
In order to strengthen its leading role as a community energy development organisation, Community Energy Scotland employed Lucy Brown on an eight week summer placement in 2011.
What was your student involved with?
Lucy's work as Marketing, Communications and Media Assistant helped increase awareness of Community Energy Scotland’s work within Scotland. She reviewed the marketing and communications strategy and created 20 project case studies. She also helped to improve the team’s confidence when using social media as a communication tool. Lucy was invited to review further work on the company’s new website after she left the placement and also test it before it went live.
What’s been the most powerful benefit?
Introducing a young person into the team with new fresh and creative ideas greatly benefits the whole organisation. Lucy’s enthusiasm and creative approach ensured that we considered new ways of working and improved communications with stakeholders and client groups.
