Placement summary
This is an opportunity to learn about the aquaculture sector in Scotland – did you know for example that salmon is the UK’s nos. 1 food export?
You will learn about food sustainability, seafood and shellfish production, the latest aquaculture research – all with a Scottish perspective in a global environment. Starting in June, this placement will last for 12 weeks. The successful candidate will be based in our office in Scion House, Stirling. However, we do have the scope to host the Intern within the Highlands and Islands area.
Job description
Project Description
At SAIC we are supported by a Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP). Their role is to influence and challenge the types of research undertaken in support of our aim of bringing industry and academia together to produce valuable science that results in an increased production of sustainable seafood and shellfish in an environmentally acceptable way.
We would like our Intern to support the SAP by horizon scanning the internet to explore and recommend future areas of research in aquaculture. Before the Intern can conduct this research and make informed recommendations they will have to spend time getting to know the aquaculture sector – both production and research – by shadowing, visiting, questioning and learning with all of our existing and potential partners.

The programme is only open to students in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year, who are studying an undergraduate Life Science Degree in Scotland.
