SB Drug Discovery Limited have an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified biology graduate to help with expanding our range of cell lines (principally ion channels). The graduate will primarily work within cell culture but also have the opportunity
to spend time with different teams. This is a 12 month placement with the potential of transitioning to a permanent role thereafter, based in Glasgow.

Project Description
SB has identified a market opportunity for selling high quality ion channel cell lines to customers. Within a 12 month timescale, SB aims to initiate development of 30 cell lines, designed in staggered batches, over the next 10-12 months. By developing a critical mass of ion channel prototypes, this will enable SB to become a key provider of ion channel cell products and services, significantly enhancing the effects of the recent company re-brand.
Project Objectives
This project is intended to achieve a significant increase in company revenue. Success will be determined by the number and quality of cell lines produced and the sales value they command in the worldwide market.
Role Description
The Research Scientist role is within our cell culture team, working with mammalian and insect cells using a variety of laboratory techniques and assays. The graduate will be a member of the team, working closely with the team and project leaders to achieve these project objectives. The graduate will also have the opportunity to move between different teams to gain experience and knowledge in a range of areas.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Biological science degree or relevant similar discipline.
Ideal:
- Some experience or specialisation in one or more of the following: mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture, transfection technologies, general molecular biology techniques and western blotting
Skills / Experience
Essential:
- Some experience in one or more of the following areas: mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture, transfection technologies, general molecular biology techniques and western blotting.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- Ability to work under pressure and to achieve targets
- Strong organisation skills
- Good communication skills
- A demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Accuracy is required in performing all functions of these positions.
Ideal:
- Experience or knowledge of using calcium mobilisation or membrane potential assays used for screening ion channels.
