Job description

Project Description

At Oregon, we design, manufacture, supply and erect structural timber frames to the UK's leading house-builders/developers. We continually strive to be at the forefront of the timber frame industry through research and development of our products.

This is a key growth project for our business and the successful candidate will be given the chance to gain a wealth of business management knowledge across all our departments (Design / Sales & Technical / Commercial / Production and On-Site Construction). To do this, the management processes within the departments will be required to be monitored and assessed and this will help embed the theory and practice of management for each department.

Following on from this stage, you will be tasked with preparing and developing a Business Improvement Plan for submission to the Board. Providing the Plan gains Board approval, you will then proceed to undertake a number of hands-on business projects and deliver these to completion.

You will have a senior manager assigned who will manage, mentor and assess progress throughout the duration of the placement.

Overall, we are looking to invest in someone who demonstrate their potential for building a long term career within Oregon Timber Frame Limited. Whilst we are currently unable to guarantee a permanent role at the conclusion of the placement, every effort will be made to identify a suitable role.

Placement Objectives

The successful candidate will devise a Business Improvement Plan which will use SMART objective theory and will highlight the reasoning behind these findings. They will also have been fully costed, researched and resourced. Projects arising from these findings will then be launched and delivered on time and by the end of the placement.

Role Description

The aim of this project is to identify a graduate with the potential to become a future general manager/director within our company. The project is be based around the five main functions of Oregon; namely Design, Sales & Technical, Commercial, Production and On Site Construction.

The successful candidate will spend a great deal of time gaining broad operational experience, by shadowing supervisors and learning the theory of management in each department. There will be a significant emphasis on learning and development at this stage and will involved the following tasks:

  • Fulfil a general induction in each department and becoming familiar with their operations
  • Attend weekly and monthly management meetings
  • Participate in all aspects of the business to develop a wide range of management skills
  • Attend training as deemed necessary by your line manager (for example, Finance for non-Finance Managers / People skills training / CSCS etc)

Having had a thorough grounding in all aspects of the business, you will be given an operational managerial function and tasked with evaluating the company as a whole and deliver a Business Improvement Plan focusing on reducing cost/increasing efficiencies/identifying new areas for development, with the overall aim of adding value to our business.

Using the Business Improvement Plan you will undertake a number of real business projects and deliver these through to completion.
