Eclipse Blind Systems is a leading supplier of hardware products, textiles and manufacturing equipment to the window coverings industry, with an established reputation for product innovation. To maintain continuous improvement, we are looking for a highly motivated graduate for an exciting 12 month placement, which will focus on new product development. The role will be based at our head office in Inchinnan, Renfrewshire.

Project Description

The aim of this project is to help this business continue in its aims of growing through Innovation and Design. Specifically, this project will help to improve internal system processes and design capability.

The role will facilitate the drawing, sample approval, analysis and testing of new product developments, propose design improvements and ensure that final product is fit for purpose. In addition, the successful candidate will also create test procedures, quality checklists and technical specification for new and replacement products.

Placement Objectives

The placement objectives are to provide the company with improvements to internal processess which will boost design capability.

Role Description

Main Tasks:

  • Set out test plans and identify all resource requirements to meet agreed target dates for all projects
  • Initiate development and test programs as required ensuring product exceeds minimum required standard
  • Identify key milestones within the project plans and ensure that the projects are kept on target
  • Produce plans, and reports as agreed with manager to ensure clear objectives and monitor progress
  • Ensure drawings and specifications for all components are maintained as specified in company procedures
  • Produce and complete any Component Modification Proposal as required
  • Create, manage and up-issue 3D CAD drawings as required
  • Raise and complete Document Change Notes as required
  • Liaise closely with other team members to ensure all objectives are met
  • Maintain a complete ‘test file’ as required by CE standards for all new designs
  • Provide clear written instruction of how to test and Quality Check all new components and systems
  • To provide technical support to other departments and selected customers
  • Maintain a high level of product knowledge of all components and systems supplied
  • Maintain a database of all known component and system problems and FAQ’s
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and suitability of sample products from existing and prospective suppliers and establish relationship within company guidelines
  • Engender and maintain positive relationships with all levels of staff, suppliers and customers as required ensuring effective and appropriate communication
  • To continuously monitor and evaluate work processes and procedures and recommend improvements as appropriate
  • Other duties that are reasonably required should be undertaken

Qualifications

HND or Degree in relevant Design or Engineering discipline

Skills / Experience

Essential Skills

  • Microsoft Office for documentation of work and report writing
  • 3D CAD knowledge and experience would be ideal
  • Strong analytical and problem solving thought process

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience of working in a similar environment
