CelluComp has a great opportunity for an enthusiastic graduate to join our small and friendly team as a Process Laboratory Technician. You will learn about and assist in the development of a new process of a material developed from the extraction of Nano cellulose fibres of root vegetables in order to optimise the process. The placement will be initially for a 12 months, with the prospect of long-term hire, based in Burntisland.

Project Description

The successful candidate will be required to assist in the development of a new process of a material developed from the extraction of Nano cellulose fibres of root vegetables.  This will include running and optimising the process through research and experimentation.

Placement Objectives

The main objective of the placement will be for the successful candidate to fully learn all aspects of the process and then be able to contribute to optimising it, in order to streamline samples and increase volumes and yields.

Role Description

As the successful candidate, you will spend the initial period throughly, proactivley learning the process in order to assist the laboratory manager run it. You will assist in the development of a new process of a material developed from the extraction of Nano cellulose fibres of root vegetables.  This will include running and optimising the process through research.

Key elements of the role will be:

  • Aiding optimisation of processes
  • Conducting experiments to help make necessary modifications to the product
  • Help with the design and verification of quality control measures
  • Researching applicable biocides for the CelluComp material
  • General Research & Development experiments.

Qualifications

Graduate from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in an appropriate discipline, such as Sciences, preferably in material science, biochemistry, Chemistry or any polymer science related subject.

Skills / Experience

Essential Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ablity to write reports based on the experiments they have carried out, and be able to present the results in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to work pro-actively as an individual and within a small team
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks
  • Skills in using Word, Excel and Outlook to a basic level.

Desirable Skills

  • A good knowledge in using microscopes and viscometers would be advantageous, but training will be provided.
  • Work experience is not essential as full training and guidance will be provided
