Placement summary
Campbell & Kennedy Ltd is a company established over 60 years ago which has grown significantly over the last 5 years and continues to grow. Originally specialising in Scottish-based satellite and aerial installations, the company has now expanded to include UK-wide energy, technical solutions, electrical contracting and fire protection markets and now employs 150+ FTE. We are now seeking a talented graduate for a 12 month placement to help support the next steps in our IT systems development plan.
Job description
Project Description
Campbell & Kennedy currently employ several different CRM and database solutions all of which work independently of each other. Data extraction from these utilities is often labour intensive and prone to human error. The organisation is looking at building a bespoke system that will unify the business intelligence and resource deployment (including data to/from PDAs) with minimal step reporting capabilities. Given the current size of the business and the future growth plans now is the ideal time to re-assess our IT provision inasmuch that we need one (bespoke) unified system that will optimise control and performance within the organisation and deliver higher levels of service delivery and reporting capabilities whilst reducing costs and increasing bottom line returns.
This project will entail appraisal of the (manual & electronic) data capture methods (ranging from Excel through to CRM) with a view to building a bespoke system that will harmionise the business intelligence (real time and historical) for the company and the sub-companies operations.
An added benefit of moving from labour led business intelligence is that of error reduction, consistency, transparency and easier analysis of management information. It is envisaged that the time savings from such could be circa 15%. The confidence in auto-generated business intelligence will allow our key managers to make correct and timely decisions resulting in more effective service delivery.
In respect of stock control and management it is vital that IT moves from just being, in principle, a database to becoming a more dynamic operational support tool.
Placement Objectives
The perceived benefits for this project will be development of a detailed appraisal of our processes that should look to deliver leaner working opportunities supported by the developed technological platform. Campbell & Kennedy will not only develop leaner and more efficient working practices due to more defined technological advancement supported with faster and more accurate, less labour intensive, business intelligence. This will allow management to focus on better and more effective resource deployment rather than the current inconsistent and time consuming spreadsheet led practices. An additional aim of this project is to also develop direct client access and client reporting functionalities and, through this, secure more contracts via this vital market differentiator. IT development will also enable true "cradle to grave" sales to service pipeline management thus ensuring that human error will not mean a loss in potential contract awards and future repeat business opportunities.
The key objectives for this role are as follows:
- Campbell & Kennedy (Operations Systems and Processes) Appraisal(s)
- Presenting Findings and Recommendations (Board Level)
- Developing, Coding and Testing
- Bench Testing and UAT / Transition Planning
- Full Go Live
- Full Project Review
