Cairndene have a fantastic opportunity for a graduate software developer to gain immediate commercial development experience. Join our experienced team and help design, build and deploy software solutions for the Oil and Gas industry! We are looking for proactive and self-motivated junior developer with a positive attitude and excellent technical, and problem solving skills. Full training will be provided on this 12 month placement and we hope to transition this into a permanent role based in Brechin, Angus.

Project Description
We are looking at the design and development of an enterprise level web application, using the Spring framework. This software will facilitate the day to day administration of offshore Oil and Gas projects within the North Sea.
The successful candidate will be engaged in the full project life cycle including requirements analysis, design, development, testing and production rollout/support, and will be involved in key relationships with technical colleagues, business sponsors and other stakeholders.
Placement Objectives
To support the software department in the design and development of an enterprise level web application for the Oil and Gas Industry.
Role Description
This is a practical role with immediate commercial development experience on offer, training will be given by the software architect on the existing practices and systems. Under the supervision of Cairndene’s software architect and project manager, you will be working within the development team.
As the successful candidate, you will be engaged in the full project life cycle including requirements analysis, design, development, testing and production rollout/support, and will be involved in key relationships with technical colleagues, business sponsors and other stakeholders
Day to day tasks/responsibilities will include:
- Requirements gathering
- Software design - including database / server side and UX / Front end
- Coding
- Testing
- Help and Functional documentation production
- Software delivery and setup
The successful applicants technical development will be regularly reviewed and training supplied in conjunction with the successful applicants requisite needs and agreed development plan.
You will gain exposure and work with the following practices:
- Object Oriented analysis and design / with an eye on the use of functional programming where applicable for performance improvement.
- Continuous Integration utilising Jenkins CI and Artifactory
- Version control using GIT
- Unit testing using JUnit
- For project management Cairndene applies agile methodologies such as scrum where appropriate and also incorporates traditional project management methodology when necessary.
Qualifications
Graduate from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or equivalent, in a scientific, computing or other quantitative subject preferred.
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
We are looking for proactive and self-motivated junior developer with a positive attitude and excellent technical, team-working, communication, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of Java, C# or similar 3rd generation programming language
- Solid understanding of Object Oriented Design and Analysis
- Some knowledge and/or experience in web development using Javascript, JQuery and HTML
- Some usage of version control such as GIT or Subversion
Desirable Skills
- RDBMS skills, including database design and structured query language
