Placement summary
BioReliance, a global contract service organisation with the European sites based in the central belt of Scotland, is seeking a development student to work within the Development services group for a 10 week placement. The successful student will provide technical assistance for development/assessment of new technologies for detection of impurities, located within our Glasgow facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to work directly with skilled scientific staff and also have exposure to the wider commercial workings of a busy service company.

Project Description
The successful candidate will work directly with the development team at BioReliance. The company has developed and validated many different HCP methods, however there is updated technology which requires evaluation. The project will provide the candidate with the understanding of existing technologies and the newer updated techniques under assessment. This will be followed by a series of challenges of the performance of these tests. The output of this project will be a level of testing and full documentation of the development and assessment of the updated technologies which will be presented in a format which will be suitable for client and regulatory scrutiny. The candidate will work in a regulated testing environment and will gain skills at a practical laboratory based level and also in the level of documentation needed to performed within such quality systems. The candidate's work will be fully supervised, and they will work with other lab based personnel - it is required to organise time efficiently. The preparation and submission of data to the supervisor in an agreed timeframe will be necessary.
Our objective for this role is that the organisation will maintain the ability to support and assess new technologies. The ability to keep up with “state of the art” techniques is a requirement to ensure compliance to the regulatory guidance. This project will provide support to the development team in terms of assessment, development and qualification of methods for impurity assessment.
Qualifications
This placement is part of The Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme. The programme is only open to students in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year, who are studying an undergraduate Life Science Degree in Scotland.
