Placement summary
BioReliance, the leading provider of contract services to the biopharmaceutical industry, is looking to fill a data analysis role to support the GMP testing activities in the Molecular Biology Department this summer. The successful applicant will experience work within a Molecular Biology department, that supports product development for the Pharmaceutical Industry, during this 10 week role. Specifically, the role will include driving a data trending project, including statistical analysis, which will help define whether the GMP assay portfolio is performing to the expected validated standard over time.
Job description
Project Description
BioReliance is the leading provider of contract services to the biopharmaceutical industry, supporting every phase of the testing, development and manufacturing process and offering a comprehensive and integrated package of services. Our clients include producers of traditional pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemicals and other products, as well as biopharmaceuticals.
The Molecular Biology team perform a wide variety of testing used to ensure that the client’s product is free from any contaminants, thus ensuring the quality of the final product. This requires a package of highly sensitive, validated testing methods such as PCR. In support of this, trend analysis provides a quality-monitoring tool which can be used to allow ongoing analysis of assay performance to ensure that assays continue to be fit for purpose (highlighting any problems in performance in a timely manner).
The core role will be to lead the trend analysis and archiving of study data for the Molecular Biology team in conjunction with the Scientist team. The role will be responsible for collating post-study PCR data and subsequent input into specific databases to create visual trending graphs for monitoring assay performance. Once the data is collated, it must be analysed to assess whether each PCR assay is performing as expected (i.e. within the parameters of its validated status). This will require basic statistical analysis to ensure that the correct recommendation with respect to assay performance is made for each assay analysed.
The successful applicant will also be required to create assay trend analysis reports for PCR tests analysed and these reports will be used in support of monitoring the validated status of the assay (an industry requirement). Finally, the applicant will aid the Molecular Biology Scientists with data archiving activities following test completion and assay trending.
The project will support the Molecular Biology team by helping to collate and analyse data from PCR tests used in support of the release of pharmaceutical products for some of the biggest clients in the pharmaceutical industry for the treatment of a wide range of human and veterinary diseases. It is necessary to analyse all data produced for any changes in the performance of each assay so that appropriate action may be taken before an assay is considered not fit for purpose.
