Placement summary
Biopta is a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) focussing on the use of human tissue in drug development, with laboratories in Glasgow, UK, and Maryland, USA. We wish to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic scientist to join our Research & Development (R&D) team and provide administrative support in Glasgow for an eight week placement this summer. Experience of pharmacology and/or physiology laboratory techniques and scientific knowledge in these areas is required.
Job description
Project Description
Biopta provide specialist non-clinical drug development services to the pharmaceutical industry. We carry out research projects using human tissue as a test system to predict the safety and effectiveness of potential new drugs. Biopta have developed a database of their human tissue assay outputs which will be used as a research tool both internally and externally. The successful applicant will be responsible for populating this database with data generated in Biopta’s laboratories. From this database, marketing material will also be generated. The main objective of this role is ensuring data input is current and meeting milestones for data entry and production of marketing information/materials, as defined by the R&D Manager.
The role will be office based.
In addition to a pharmacology and/or physiology background; report writing, data analysis, attention to detail and good communication skills are essential.
Further training in Biopta’s expert in vitro pharmacology research, such as organ bath, myography and organoculture techniques will be provided.
Biopta’s laboratories operate seven days per week therefore flexible working may be required. The company is a member of the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) programme; GLP background training will be provided.
Qualifications
This placement is part of The Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme. The programme is only open to students in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year, who are studying an undergraduate Life Science Degree in Scotland.
