Allatus are currently recruiting for a recent graduate for a 12 month placement opportunity within our newly created product development team. Based in the centre of Edinburgh, you will become a key member of the team and will work on a software product used in the areas of Knowledge Management, Semantic Web technologies and data warehousing.

Project Description
The Management Information Instrumentation & Controls project has been set-up to focus development resource at improving the internal management information that can be generated from the existing product.
The project is expected to take 10-12 months to complete, after which, if the delivery is successful, the candidate is expected to take up a full-time position with the company.
Placement Objectives
Increase our ability to get better, to provide more fine-grained information on the tools performance, to help identify areas where performance improvements can be made to the tool.
Role Description
Reporting to the Software Development Manager, the holder of this role will focus on a specific project to implement improved controls and metrics into the Allatus Unity Tool. Specifically the successful candidate will undertake the following as part of the project:
- Working closely with our end-user, identify and draw together requirements where additional Management Information and controls are required within the Allatus Unity tool;
- Investigate, test and recommend 3rd party components for implementation within the Allatus Unity Architecture to meet the above requirements. Recommending either to use an existing tool, or develop custom tools to meet the requirements;
- Enhance the existing code base to implement the selected/developed components within the Allatus unity, ensuring that any bugs encountered during this work corrected in-line with user requirements;
- Enhance existing / develop new dash board capability to expose the MII data, within existing Allatus Unity “Share” and “Exploit” modules, making sure that the functionality delivered meets user expectations;
- Develop Additional automated controls within the tool, to make use of existing data, along with the new data collected by the MII components to monitor the health of the system and alert specified users to issues for investigation.
Qualifications
Computer Science / Studies or related degrees, HND graduates will also be considered.
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
We’re looking for self-starting candidates who have a background and qualification in Computer Science, and wish to focus on the following skillsets:
- Building server side services using C#, .Net 4.0, WCF and Windows Workflow;
- Building large browser-based applications using JavaScript, CSS & XHTML;
- JavaScript framework such as JQuery, Dojo, Angular, Backbone and other;
- Working in an agile development environment;
- Web architecture and technologies, including JSON, XML and XSLT;
- Working in a Continuous Integration environment, using tools such as SVN, developing Unit Tests and wiki based Documentation.
Desirable Skills
- Building parsers or working with Knowledge Management / Semantic technologies;
- Database design (Relational or Document Orientated);
- A good understanding of function and variable scopes in JavaScript;
- SOA;
- HTML5 / Mobile;
- Java;
