This 12 month placement, based in Livingston is fully intended to transition into a permanent role with the company.

Job description

Project Description

A2E work in a variety of fields and we are specialising in electronics for the Oil and Gas sector. We create solutions that the Oil and Gas sector never thought would be possible, to allow them to get real-time, local, communications from oil wells. Through advanced, embedded electronics for different, challenging environments, including high temperature and high pressure, we are adding real-time instrumentation to the industry. These systems are designed in-house and manufactured and installed by specialists.

The successful graduate will be involved in a number of projects, including the design of an embedded system (HW & SW) for deployment in an off shore (down hole) wire line sensing and data logging system.

There will be two main career development opportunities, depending on the skill set of the individual: one focused on the electronics hardware and the other focused on the embedded software (C) running on a micro controller.

Placement Objectives

The successful applicant will contribute to a number of projects to increase specialistion into the Oil and Gas market and grow the business.

Role Description

This is no ordinary 9 to 5.  You’ll be working in embedded system design to deliver on-time, top-of-the-industry solutions for a global client base in the offshore Oil and Gas market.

Our projects demand self-motivated  engineers with outside-the-box thinking to develop innovative products for our customers, customers that include primarily Oil & Gas and Smart Energy industries and also Defense, Life and Medical Sciences. This is a high-profile opportunity for you to show off your talent in a fast paced technical environment and learn on the job from experienced staff.

Reporting to the project Senior Engineer, you will work as part of a team on a number of projects (typically at least 3 over the year), which will also involve working closely with customers to achieve the end product. These may include:

  • Subsea advanced embedded systems to control safety equipment
  • Remote sensing and processing to allow cutomers to make local decisions using acoustic and wireline communications
  • Novel design for intrinsically safe signal processing systems for explosive environments, such as oil rigs (that will fail in safe mode).

Your Assignments Should You Choose To Accept Them:

  • Electronic module design
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB design
  • Integration and Test of prototype systems
  • Release to manufacture

OR

  • SW specification
  • SW design and development
  • SW integration & test with hardware.

Qualifications

Graduate from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, in either Electronics and Hardware Engineering, or Software Engineering (preferably with electronics as a hobby).
