Selbrae House Ltd is the limited company name representing several consumer brands including Just Slate / a collection of slate tableware accessories handcrafted in Fife, Scotland. After a successful export launch in 2012 we want to consolidate and continue our growth plans into existing and new markets.

To facilitate this we are looking to recruit a graduate through ScotGrad with language and business skills.

Project Description

Just Slate sells a range of high quality, stylish slate tableware, manufactured in its bespoke production facilities in Fife. The products are mainly sold to retailers across the UK, from department stores to specialist cook shops and gift shops as well as online through the company’s own webshop and other web retailers. They are also distributed into the UK catering trade through foodservice distributors.

During the last two years the company has continued to grow turnover in the UK whilst also launching the product in selected international markets, concentrating on mainland Europe (primarily France), selected markets in the Far East (Korea, Japan and Singapore) and North America.

Key to the success of continuing this export growth strategy wil be the company's ability to gear iteself up for international business, in terms of allocating time and resource for proactive international business development activity to convey key international B2B marketing messages.

Placement Objectives

Continue with the day to day development of international sales through existing customer networks
Research potential new target markets, including indentification and evaluation of the most effective routes to market
Apply and attend trade shows in Frankfurt (Ambiente) and Paris (Maison & Objet)
Undertake pre-show promotional work and fix new appointments
Review marketing collateral and stand design needs to trade shows
Follow up on leads achieved from trade shows
To raise the international profile of the business
Achieve an increased knowledge of marketing in international markets
Deploy language skills in other areas of the business

Role Description

Based in Kirkcaldy the successful candidate will work closely with the MD and Trade Marketing Manager to devise and implement a strategy to achieve the placement objectives. This is primarily a sales role but using marketing tools to achieve that end and will involve travel to both UK and International trade shows twice yearly, research trips to potential markets and meetings with key international retailers and distributors.

The role will also include working with the sales administration team, logistics manager and contributing to production & marketing meetings.

A degree in Marketing or International Business

Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
An international mindset
Computer literacy
Ability to work on own initiatve, as well as part of a team
Good analytical and research skills
Well established personal organisation skills
Ability to develop and maintain fruitful relationships with clients and partners

Desirable Skills

Knowledge of other languages, ideally French and German
Good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
Sales and marketing knowledge and/or experience
