Placement summary
Ireland Alloys Ltd, is a Scottish based Processor of Scrap Metal, mainly Complex Nickel Alloys. Based in Central Scotland we are importers and exporters to global markets and have been, for over 50 years. Our vision, is to develop business in key growth areas, China and South East Asia being the main one, to help us achieve our goals we are now recruiting for a China and Asian Market Researcher. We envisage the person to be required to work 12 hours per week (during term time) over an initial period of 2-3 months. In the first instance you would be expected to identify suitable consumers of our products focusing on the Chinese market, secondly, to make connections and help consolidate business opportunities into successful relationships.

Project Description
The aim is to establish consumers and suppliers in the Chinese and Asian Markets that we currently are missing out on. The consumers will be mainly Vacuum Nickel Alloy Melters, similar to our Western Market customers. The role is interesting and varied with many alloys and chemistries that we process involved. We would like to work direct with mills but it will be your role to research best route to market either through an agent or direct supply. Initially researching and establishing contact with the correct connections allowing us to establish relationships and understanding of customer’s requirements for our type of products, then formalising these connections to allow us to initiate exporting into the Chinese market.
The placement is open to students studying for a postgraduate qualification and meet our criteria for the role. The placement will be located in Hamilton and will be paid at the rate of £8.25/hr.
Placement Objectives
To provide relevant support in establishing contacts and communication with consumers in these target markets for our products.
Role Description
Assisting the Business Development Manager in the research,
setting up dialogue and contacts within the Vacuum Melt Industry in China for
Complex Nickel Alloys. Establishing a network of potential customers and
relationships that can be consolidated into a key export/import region for IAL
ltd.
Qualifications
This placement is open to students who are currently studying a postgraduate qualification and meet the essential criteria for the role.

Essential Skills
- Fluent in Mandarin/Cantonese
- Good standard of spoken and written
- English
Motivated and enthusiastic
- Excellent relationship building skills
- Good communication/interpersonal skills
- IT literate
Desirable Skills
- Interest in Metallurgy or Marketing would be an advantage but not essential
