This is a 12 month placement with high potential of a permanent role thereafter.

Project Description
We are continuing to grow in what are highly competitive markets and we need appropriately qualified electrical test personnel to help us with our growth plans. Having recently moved to larger premises, providing additional capacity for the UK manufacture of current and voltage transformers up to 36kV, we have identified the need for an additional test engineer to capitalise on our expansion and maximise the opportunities on our new product developments. This project will further develop ITL's growth within key sectors plus help develop & execute our expansion programme. By implementing the development plan, it will allow us to expand our manufacturing activities quicker and build upon our level of customer satisfaction.
Placement Objectives
This placement is designed to assist instrument transformers with testing with the aim of progressing to join the design team.
Role Description
Working as part of the engineering team the role will involve routine testing of all components currently manufactured up to a voltage level of 36kV. This will involve understanding the relevant international standards and be able to relate these to the testing requirements at the end of the production process. The role will also include the design of instrument transformers to assist with testing but also with the intent to progress to becoming part of the design team.
Main Tasks:
- Routine testing of transformers
- Supervision of test dept
- Fault finding of transformers
- Routine maintenance of test equipment
- Staff training plans and implementation
- Liaise with production dept to ensure targets are being met
- Investigation into improvements of transformers for feeding into design application
- Design efficiency tasks
Qualifications
Undergraduate/Postgraduate in electrical engineering, preferably with power engineering as main discipline
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
- Excellent understanding of transformer theory
- Established practical skills (both electrical and mechanical)
- First class interpersonal skills
- Be able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Excellent IT skills (CAD, Microsoft Office etc)
Desirable Skills
- Use of FEM would be an advantage but not essential
