Placement summary

HIE are recruiting for a Graduate Project Officer for a 12 month graduate placement role based in the ScotGrad team in Inverness. The Graduate Project Officer will bring fresh thinking to the promotion of the activities of the team and will manage the ScotGrad Summer Placement Programme and Gaelic Summer Placement Programme. The role will also involve managing the ScotGrad Ambassador Programme, an innovative initiative for students or graduates who have been through a ScotGrad placement to enhance the ScotGrad brand.

ScotGrad Highlands and Islands is HIE’s newly established placement programme which focuses on growth through innovation, internationalisation and capacity building, sitting at the heart of HIE’s aspirations for business growth. ScotGrad Highlands and Islands is a multi-party programme and the placements are mostly available to HIE account managed organisations which receive a contribution towards the wage.

ScotGrad Highlands and Islands is made up of 5 strands – a Graduate Placement Programme (GPP), a Summer Placement Programme (SPP), a Gaelic Summer Placement Programme (G-SPP), a Knowledge Exchange Placement Programme (KEPP) and a Community Enterprise Placement Programme (CEPP). The Programme aims to support innovation by increasing knowledge transfer from universities to businesses and social enterprises in the Highlands and Islands. This will be achieved by promoting and developing strong links between businesses and academia through graduate and undergraduate summer placements. The graduate will make an important contribution to the Placements Team and will have exposure to all areas of the processes. He/she will gain experience of project management and delivery, client and graduate engagement and digital marketing.

Specific tasks of the placement will include:

• Marketing of the programme – running marketing campaigns, researching other advertising opportunities, management of social media.

• Raising awareness of the programme and its opportunities.

• Management and delivery of the Student Summer Placement Programme and Gaelic Student Summer Placement Programme.

• Further development and delivery of the ScotGrad Ambassador Programme.

• Attendance at careers fairs and events, engaging with students and graduates about the benefits of the programme.

• Arranging networking events for graduates/students and employers.

• Post-placement research – finding out the destinations of graduates and students once they have completed their placements.

• Creation of case studies, both film and written.

Qualifications

This role will suit those with a degree or postgraduate degree in marketing, PR, communications, business or other relevant disciplines.

• Confident in the use of ICT in particular Microsoft applications

Desirable Skills

• Experience in a Marketing, PR or Business role

• Ability to apply knowledge and skills in a business context

Placement benefits

As part of this ScotGrad Graduate Placement Programme, the candidate will benefit from support from a team within Highlands and Islands Enterprise and also access a four-day residential course focussed on employability and business skills. The successful candidate will gain practical experience in researching, developing and delivery of a project.
