HIE is recruiting for a Gaelic Resource Development Officer for a 12 month role to develop and implement proactive activities to support and realise impacts identified and informed by the HIE led Gaelic as an Asset/ Ar Stòras Gàidhlig research. This role will be based in Stornoway.

The economic and social value of Gaelic as a unique asset for Scotland was the focus of an innovative research study, published in November 2014.

HIE led a partnership research project on ways in which Gaelic is currently being used to deliver economic and social benefits to businesses, social enterprises and communities, and how its impact can be maximised.

Entitled Ar Stòras Gàidhlig (Our Gaelic Resource), the final report and associated sector reviews and case studies demonstrates how the language is currently being used to add value in a wide variety of circumstances and highlights its considerable potential to bring further benefits to businesses, communities and individuals. The successful graduate will be required to:

  • Consider the Gaelic as an Asset research findings.
  • Building on the research, work with colleagues to develop an action plan for proactive activities to support clients to grow the use and value of Gaelic in their organisations, adding value to their business and local economy.

It is anticipated that the post will:

  • Encourage proactive engagement with clients to capitalise on Gaelic related opportunities through the account manager
  • Work with colleagues and partners to tackle challenges and barriers to growth of Gaelic
  • Work with colleagues to explore international opportunities for Gaelic economic and social development and for relevant ambitious client
  • Undertake other activities identified in the action plan
