Placement summary
Fèisean nan Gàidheal, the independent umbrella association of the Fèis movement, is recruiting for a Graduate Marketing and Publicity Officer to work in two areas of Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s activities – Fèisgoil and Events (Blas Festival and Cèilidh Trails). This role will involve the development and delivery of a marketing plan, improving current marketing strategies and delivery of a publicising strategy. This role will be for 12 months and may be based in Inverness or Portree.

Project Description
Fèisgoil is a new initiative for Fèisean nan Gàidheal that sells services in Gaelic language and arts activity to local authorities and public bodies, primarily those with Gaelic Language Plans. Fèisgoil has the potential to create additional employment for tutors and help deliver commitments in Gaelic Language Plans contributing to the overall target in the National Gaelic Language Plan of increasing the numbers of people using the language.
The annual summer Fèis Cèilidh Trails and the Blas Festival each September have the potential to provide a summer of music for locals and tourist alike, adding to the experience of visitors to the Highlands and Islands and providing employment for musicians as well as, in the case of Blas, a boost to the economy of the area.
Specific tasks of the role will involve:
GENERAL
• Development and delivery of a Marketing Plan to be drawn together based on the model provided by Denvir Marketing
• Improvements to current marketing strategies for individual events and services and mechanisms put in place for other Fèisean nan Gàidheal personnel to assist with marketing
• Delivery of a strategy to be based around publicising our activities, events, successes in Gaelic and in English
• Employ social media platforms for marketing purposes to create awareness and engagement round events such as the Blas Festival and Cèilidh Trails
• Providing regular updates on Fèisean nan Gàidheal website and social media
• Increase the prominence of the main revenue generating events on our website
• Drive innovation and constant improvements in online marketing activity, improving the existing processes and implementing new technologies as required
• Increase the visibility of Fèisean nan Gàidheal on event brands
• Increase engagement through social media as opposed to volume
• Use of SEO to develop strong natural search rank for website and the event brands within, continual tracking to maintain competiveness through Google Analytics, PPC
• Annual calendar of event opportunities to be created and updated regularly to identify opportunities to raise the profile
SPECIFIC
Fèisgoil
• With better marketing, increase the number of contracts being delivered through Fèisgoil in order to generate additional income
• Business strategy to be created and implemented with input from the successful candidate to the marketing elements
Cèilidh Trails
• Increase the audience for summer Cèilidh Trails through better marketing of the events and the idea of a ‘summer of music’ starting with Cèilidh Trails and ending with Blas
• Build engagement and loyalty from key target audiences
Blas Festival
• Increase the numbers attending Blas through better use of marketing techniques, including social media and increased profile in the traditional media
• Develop the online presence and a digital marketing strategy to facilitate growth and engagement with target audiences
• Explore opportunities for Blas Festival/Fèisean nan Gàidheal within new international markets
• Identify new sponsors and digital sponsorship packages
• Develop a strategy for timely event announcements, reviews, youth work features, promotions, competitions and blogs
This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.
Qualifications
Minimum HNC in relevant discipline
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
• Fluency in Gaelic, with good writing skills;
• Educated to degree level with a relevant marketing degree or equivalent experience;
• Ability to prioritise workloads and to work to tight deadlines;
• Good knowledge of social media;
• Excellent analytical skills, including good working knowledge of tools such as Google Analytics
Desirable Skills
• Good understanding of the work of the Fèis movement and Gaelic arts;
• Previous experience of marketing within the creative industries sector;
• Good working knowledge of search engine optimisation with an ability to implement SEM campaigns (SEO/PPC)
