Community Land Scotland based in Tarbert on the Isle of Harris, are recruiting for a graduate for a 12 month role to develop a Supporters Network.
The groundwork concerning how the network would complement Community Land Scotland’s existing membership structure has already been started thus the initial development of the network would build on the framework already in place. The measures to get the network up and running and, subsequently, building the network would be the key task for this graduate placement.

The Supporters Network is a response to the growing public interest in community landownership and land reform issues; Community Land Scotland would like to give those who support its work and that of its members, the opportunity to do so.
Community Land Scotland wishes to extend interest in what they do, both to those within Scotland to those outside the obvious Scottish geographical boundaries. This role would involve the development of a marketing package, assistance with the development and upkeep of a new website allowing Supporters to sign-up online, maintaining communications with Supporters, and developing Community Land Scotland’s service to Supporters.
Specific tasks of the role will include:
• Development of marketing package for the Supporters Network:
- The graduate will be expected to assist with the further development and upkeep of the website, which is currently being redesigned. It is hoped that the new website will attract supporters and facilitate online sign-up.
- Development of promotional flyers for distribution.
- Development of email media engagement for potential Supporters.
- Make use of Community Land Scotland’s social media to engage potential supporters.
- Production of a promotional film.
- Research of alternative promotional activities/media.
• Ensure an excellent service to Community Land Scotland Supporters
- Creation of supporter ‘welcome packs’
- Development of communications with supporters (i.e. through quarterly newsletter)
• Production of supporters network handbook for other Community Land Scotland staff to continue after placement has been completed (including detailed instructions on processes)
This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.
Qualifications
Minimum HNC in relevant discipline
Skills / Experience
Essential Skills
• A commitment to, and enthusiasm for, community land ownership
• Good IT skills
• Understanding of social media
• Good written communication skills
Desirable Skills
• A qualification in rural development or similar
• Website management experience
• Experience in working in the voluntary sector/social enterprise movement
• A creative outlook
• Flexible approach to working
• Ability to travel
