We are the market leader in the manufacture and supply of veterinary imaging equipment, with well-established field sales and office administration teams. We have a true dedication to our staff, recognised with Investors in People status. As part of our growth plans, we are looking to develop the Chinese market for our products. We are recruiting for a 14 week, part-time student placement which will help us achieve the desired development of the market in China. We have a requirement for someone to work approximately 20 hours per week, however we can be flexible on when these hours are performed. If the placement is successful there may be an opportunity for 1 year fixed term placement. This placement will focus on the Chinese market and being fluent in Mandarin would be essential. Some commercial experience would also be beneficial.

Project Description

The project aim would be to help to develop a distributor’s network, while increasing sales and performing key market research on the Chinese market. Further to this you will be helping the International Marketing Manager to develop a strategy and business plan for entering the Chinese market. At present we have only one distributor in the country, but we feel there is much more potential for a market this size.

The placement will be located in Bellshill (near Glasgow) and we will pay £9.00 per hour.

Placement Objectives

The main objective of this placement is to provide hands-on support to help us develop our understanding of the market in China and to aid the development of a strategy for entry to market. In addition, the placement will also help us to further develop the distribution network in China.

Role Description

Main Tasks:

  • Develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the Chinese, dairy, beef, cattle, sheep, equine and porcine industries
  • Undertake competitor research in China
  • Undertake market research and carry out assessment of findings
  • Support Marketing Manager in analysis and identify routes to market
  • Assist International Marketing Manager in writing reports and analysing data for Chinese market
  • Build relationships and partnerships with key marketplace partners and suppliers
  • Develop and translate content in order to generate new leads and opportunities
  • Support in the organisation of key exhibitions and events in China to help promote our brand and products
  • Support the launch of new products in China, alongside design and marketing teams
  • Co-ordinate the market development activities in China
  • Other general marketing activities, such as social media updates, website maintenance and communications

Qualifications

This placement is open to students who are studying for a postgraduate degree in a Marketing/Business or related discipline and meet the criteria.

  • Strong understanding of Chinese Business Culture

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in business development, sales or marketing in China
  • Exposure to Animal Science or Agricultural industry would be beneficial
