In the Highlands and Islands, ScotGrad delivers the Student Placement Programme on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. This programme offers paid placements in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland to students who wish to gain experience over the summer (up to twelve weeks) and has now expanded this to include digital technology work based placements, where there may be the opportunity to undertake an up-to-22 week placement on a pro rata basis during the academic year.
The Student Placement Programme also offers paid placements in the Highlands and Islands which have a focus on maximising languages as an economic asset for the host organisation. These placements are available to students who wish to gain experience over the summer which last up to twelve weeks, between June and September each year.
When you are successfully placed on a placement that takes place over the summer you will attend a two day ScotGrad Residential Training Course free of charge to sharpen your business skills. Towards the end of your placement you will be required to submit a short written report on your experience and achievements.
All successful candidates will deliver a well-defined project for an organisation based in the Highlands and Islands. This provides valuable work experience whilst delivering tangible outcomes and making a real impact on the organisation.
Examples of placement projects include:
Designing and developing a new product or service, or adapting one for an overseas market
Developing new business processes and getting them up and running, e.g. finance systems, ordering/purchasing systems, new website development etc.
Strategic marketing plans, targeted marketing and market research e.g. development or research of new international markets, exporting a product or service
Utilising digital opportunities to improve business performance
