What is your background?
I study Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
Where was your summer placement and what project did you work on?
I worked for Orkney Fishermen's Society and my task was to design, establish and test a manufacturing process to clean crab shells.
What did you like most about your placement?
To be honest, I enjoyed pretty much everything. I had quite a lot of responsibility, and led a team of few people. And I realised that I would enjoy a career in Health and Safety off shore.
What did you learn and what skills have you gained during your placement?
I improved my communication and leadership skills, and learned tons about safety. Moreover, I enhanced my practical skills such as welding, cutting steel.....
What advice would you give to other students?
Do not sit at home the whole summer and apply for an internship :)
