Elgin Youth Development Group
Murray used his IT skills from his degree at Moray College UHI to help set up an online booking system during his summer placement in Elgin.
What is your background and how did you come across the placement opportunity?
I study Computing at Moray College UHI. I was just checking through careers websites and I saw the link to the ScotGrad website.
What did you learn and what skills have you gained during your placement?
This summer placement has given me the opportunity to use my IT and database skills in a real life situation. I have learnt most of these skills at a very early age, by myself but since I have been in university I have gained a lot of new skills.
My project is more challenging than I first thought. The initial part was very simple, but now I am at a stage where it is quite challenging and testing my skills. I am learning a lot because I am working on my own initiative, managing my own time and resources.
What have you taken away from the residential course offered through ScotGrad?
I gained a lot. I have developed my public speaking skills and am more confident now. Another beneficial part of the course was to meet the other summer placement students. It was good to see that other people are in the same situation as me.
