Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme

Paid summer placements in Scotland’s Life Sciences sector.

The Scottish Life Sciences Internship Programme gives students paid, relevant work experience in the Life Sciences sector. Placements last from 10-12 weeks between June to September each year.

Closing date: Sunday 17th March.

The Programme is led and run by Lanarkshire Enterprise and hosted on the ScotGrad website in collaboration with Skills Development Scotland and AGCAS.

Open to:

  • Undergraduate students in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year
  • Applicants studying a degree listed below
  • Applicants studying at a Scottish University

All placements are listed here.

Application process

You will submit a CV with a strong personal profile section which summarises your interest in the position. The application is pre-populated with "please see attached CV". Do not overwrite this to complete the ScotGrad application form - attach a copy of your CV only (please note this is only acceptable for application to this Programme).

You can apply for a maximum of three placements. Please adapt your CV and tailor your personal profile to each position. Your first three applications will be reviewed, all additional applications will be rejected. Take your time to read all of the placement briefs before choosing your top three.

Eligible courses are decided by the Sciences departments at each university and not by ScotGrad. If you have any comments or concerns, please contact your university.

Example personal profile - this is intended as a guide only, content is copied and pasted from the job description and a basic online search so is too generic in this example - please explain with your own reasons/research

"Charles River Laboratories stood out to me while I was researching the opportunities available through the Life Sciences Internship Programme. In particular, I'm keen to be involved, through a summer placement and ultimately post-graduation, with a company which provides such vital products and services to help expedited the discovery, early-stage development, and safe manufacture of novel drugs and therapeutics. Specifically, I am interested in the In-vitro Sciences internship to gain practical experience working with methods to assess skin barrier functions. My Biology degree has prepared me with relevant knowledge of biology, laboratory skills, mathematical ability, and experience preparing chemical solutions which I can bring to this role."
