In 2013, Robert Fleeting joined digital marketing strategy consultancy, Jump Digital Ltd, on a ScotGrad placement project after finishing his studies. Robert has been kept on after completing his placement project and four years later, Robert is now a director of consultancy at the company.
Following a successful hospitality career, Robert made the decision in 2008 to return to university. He graduated in 2012 with a BA Hons degree in International Marketing and began to seek employment opportunities in digital marketing.
Robert applied for a ScotGrad placement project after hearing about the programme through his university’s careers service. He was placed at consultancy firm, Jump Digital Ltd, which offers training and mentoring in digital marketing tactics, online learning content production and website development.
Robert’s project involved delivering a digital marketing expert help programme for Scottish Enterprise as well as supporting the team with future customer demand. He was also tasked with producing and launching a range of new features aimed specifically at the SME market.
Robert also performed digital marketing audits of his clients’ online presence which informed recommendations for digital marketing based strategic and tactical advice to support the clients’ business objectives.
Robert said: “I knew I wanted to find employment in digital marketing and the ScotGrad placement project was a great opportunity to pursue this ambition. Through time, I felt more confident in the role and my work load and responsibility was increased. I never felt as if I was thrown in at the deep end.
“I‘ve enjoyed introducing my clients to this growing area of business and helping them to take more ownership of digital marketing and improve their understanding of what they are investing in.
“My progression within the company has been great, and I’m grateful to ScotGrad for the initial placement. I see my career continuing with digital, and I hope to broaden my skill set.
“I would absolutely recommend ScotGrad for anyone wanting to get that first bit of experience in a new industry. The support and training options provided have been fundamental to my progression as well as a great benefit to my employer.”
After Robert was offered a permanent position within the team he became the lead consultant for the business and was the first point of contact for all client related activity. After a couple of years, he was invited to join the board and became a director of the company. In his new role of director of consultancy, he oversees all digital marketing consultancy projects delivered by the company.
