I’ve spent just over 6 months in my ScotGrad placement at ITWORX UK, working as a Business Support Coordinator, and the time has flown by.
ITWORX UK is an Aberdeen based IT & Communications company which provides direction & advice on communications, security and IT technologies. During the placement I have had the opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge whilst also learning new skills.
My role is within the Commercial team, assisting with marketing and sales initiatives. I have been working closely with the Directors, Commercial team, and Systems Engineers, taking on many duties. One of the ongoing projects I am assisting with is reviewing and implementing the quote management system to optimise sales and improve opportunity management in support of company growth targets. This is something I never thought I would be doing but has given me insight into the admin duties of a company.
My main focus was to help with the redesign of the company website as it was somewhat dated and needed a refresh. I was given lots of responsibilities in developing the new website. The company has many different IT services and solutions which I had to implement on the site among many other tasks... from coding HTML/CSS to SEO best practices, configuring SSL and monitoring analytics for the website. Direction and help from our team were always at my disposal. It was very liberating knowing that some of my ideas were being implemented on the site.
In addition, the Commercial Director wanted some new marketing material for social media and for the launch of the site. I am working closely with the Commercial team to develop ‘Meet the Team’ videos which included conceptualizing the idea, filming, editing, and promoting the finished item on our social channels.
I also had the pleasure of attending the Klozers Sales and Marketing Academy at Strathclyde University. This free training was available to ScotGrads so I jumped at the opportunity to attend. I am a Computing (Graphics and Animation) graduate, so I had little experience in sales and marketing but the course brought me up to speed in the latest trends. Not only did I get a good base of understanding, it was a fun day out where I networked with people who were in the same boat as me.
The experience so far on the placement at ITWORX UK has been rewarding in the fact that I have learnt so much and feel integrated into the team. I would recommend ScotGrad for graduate placements, especially if you are looking to develop in an ambitious company which can hone your skills.
