When Lyles-Sutherland hired Sam through ScotGrad, they never imagined the impact an enthusiastic graduate would have on their company. Fraser Sutherland, the Managing Director, shares his experience.
What's your company's background?
Lyles-Sutherland is an Edinburgh-based software company. We create contemporary websites, online marketing strategies, and designs custom cloud software systems for small and medium sized businesses.
What has the graduate been involved in?
Sam was thrown into the deep end when he started with us. He gained exposure that he would never have experienced in a bigger business, as well as the corporate know-how of myself and Robin Lyles, the Technical Director. He has created over 50 websites, and worked on a range of projects - supporting larger team efforts as well as taking the lead on other pieces.
How have you benefited from employing a graduate?
Working for a company of our size means Sam gets to see the whole range of how a business operates, and really showcase his hard work and passion. We have reported an increase in turnover by £30,000 - £40,000, and since hiring Sam have increased our team size. We are now hiring at a rate of 1 new employee a month, and hope to bring in 18 new staff over the next year.
Sam was offered full time employment after his 1 year contract, and is still working with the company.
