Food and Drink Hub
Paul Anderson, Managing Director of Food and Drink Hub, is delighted to be hosting the 750th ScotGrad placement and, as he explains, Stacey has already made in-roads to important markets for Food and Drink Hub and the Scottish producers they represent.
What is your company’s background?
Scotland's Food and Drink Hub aims to support the development of Micro, Small and Medium sized food and drink companies by providing routes to market & expertise that allow companies who are disadvantaged through scale, to deliver to markets which would otherwise not be feasible. For example, we operate from a tri-temperature facility (Frozen, Chilled and Ambient) in the heart of Lanarkshire with easy access to all major motorway networks and distribution points.
We took on Stacey Byrne as Retail Relationship and Research Assistant for a 12 month placement in May 2014.
What does your graduate work on?
Stacey is supporting our team of consultants in their work with producer and retailer relationships. She is has already made significant progress in building relationships with a leading supermarket chain and understanding what they want means we are able to further promote Scottish Food producers, and enhance their success across Scotland.
As the placement progresses, we expect her to build on these relationships with both new and existing clients.
What are the benefits of employing graduates?
Graduates bring fresh perspective, enthusiasm, and experience. We find that graduates are extremely capable and are often able to rapidly progress their careers.
ScotGrad offers the benefit of being able to check the fit of the graduate with the culture and needs of the business. This has worked well for us and we are already considering the option of bringing in another graduate who will work with Stacey and the rest of the team around her.
What can you offer graduates?
We offer graduates a chance to get involved in a variety of aspects of a dynamic business. Employees have the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of how a business functions and we offer opportunities for individuals to grow and develop with us as our business evolves. The chance for rapid career development exists for capable graduates.
What are the future plans for your graduate?
The future outlook for Stacey is bright - she has already done some excellent work. we see her remaining in the business and taking on more responsibility, with a high possibility of her taking on consultancy projects of her own.
If growth continues as we hope, we may well bring in another ScotGrad graduate to work with Stacey and the team around her.
