As part of the Support & Development Team, you will help to improve operational efficiency and identify areas for potential improvement across operational and software processes. This 12 month placement provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills and experience within a growing and diverse team in a busy city centre office. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be a key part of a growing collaborative innovation team within the business. This is a significant project for us and you will deploy your recently acquired skills, knowledge and expertise to drive efficiencies and identify improvements to our operational and software practices.
You will gain credible experience by working on a project with tangible benefits to the business. You will also benefit from experience of wider industrial research and development application within an award-winning innovator.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- To generate a comprehensive understanding for the business of current processes and systems. This is two-fold and will focus on both operational and software related processes
- Identify areas for potential improvement
- To create a recommended improvement strategy and support in its implementation
A Computer Science or related degree would be ideal for the role.
Skills / Experience
You will be an innovative problem solver with a desire to find new ways of working. A strong grounding in Computing Science, with experience working with databases and software coding is essential.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise multiple work tasks
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Good team player, but able to work on own initiative
- Ability to be creative, flexible, innovative and take the initiative
Database and coding experience (for example)
- Windows Server
- Experience with cloud computing services (e.g. Microsoft Azure)
- Data science skills
- Experience with visual survey data (e.g. Laser scanning, photogrammetry, 3D design models
As part of your ScotGrad placement, you will be able to participate in a couple of training courses mainly online, and one classroom based. The courses are themed around environmental management and quality standards and will provide you with knowledge and skills which will enhance your current and future skills.
