Caithness Chamber of Commerce, is a business networking organisation for the North of Scotland, and has a 12 month graduate vacancy to support the promotion of a new initiative called “Recruit North Highlands”. The successful candidate will be based in Thurso and work alongside other key members of the team to develop an overarching marketing strategy; social media strategy and a content strategy to launch and promote Recruit North Highlands.
The successful candidate will work with the Chamber’s Marketing & Communications Manager, to support the development and implementation of a combined marketing, social media and content strategy for this new Chamber-led initiative.
This initiative, which has been developed in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, NHS Highland, and North Highland College UHI, aims to take full advantage of innovative digital media platforms to provide a unique, lifestyle-focused recruitment site for the Far North of Scotland. The long term aim of the initiative is to overcome barriers in attracting highly-skilled individuals to the area and thereby addressing a number of hard-to-fill vacancies in the region.
We are looking for a graduate with a fresh outlook to enable this exciting initiative to have the best possible start. The graduate will help ensure that swift progress is made towards the projects key aims and that the site becomes self-supporting through paid listings, advertising revenue, etc.
This role is based in Thurso and the successful candidate will be required to relocate if not from the area. The preferred start date is 3rd April 2017, however this is flexible depending on the availability of the successful candidate.

Specific tasks of the placement will include:
- the development of a 3-year marketing strategy for Recruit North Highlands.
- the development of a 12-18 month social media strategy for Recruit North Highlands
- the development of a content strategy for Recruit North Highlands
Minimum HNC. All subjects accepted provided the candidate has the required skills.
Skills / Experience
- Capable of working on multiple, complex tasks with overlapping timeframes and deadlines
- Experience and working knowledge of social media for business
- Excellent IT / computer literacy
- Good literacy skills, capable of producing copy consistently and to a high standard
- Strong verbal communication skills, capable of communicating clearly in a variety of contexts
- Good numeracy skills
- Takes responsibility for and pride in own work
- Able to work well both as part of a team and independently
- Flexible approach
- Willingness to relocate for the role if not from the area
- Experience of WordPress or other Content Management Systems
- Previous experience in a marketing or communications oriented role
- Education in a marketing or communications related subject
- Experience and knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation
- Experience of working with Google AdWords or similar systems
The graduate will have the opportunity to access some external training as part of the placement project. They will also have the opportunity to attend seminars and training events organised by the Chamber in order to further develop their skills.

Caithness Chamber of Commerce is the ‘voice of business’ in the Far North of Scotland. It was re-launched as a new company in 2009 and is based in Thurso, Caithness. It provides a range of services and products to the business community, including lobbying, making representation on key business issues, facilitating committees such as the Caithness Transport Forum and the Wick John O’Groats Airport Consultative Committee, managing loan and grant funds as well as a host of other activities to support its members. Its current membership is circa 200. For the past seven years, it has been a growth company and has 7 staff.
