Border Biscuits have been manufacturing biscuits for over 30 years and we are on an exciting journey as we continue to grow the business. A key element of these growth plans, is to make improvements to our online and digital capabilities. To assist us with that aim, we are now hiring for a 12 month placement at our Lanark manufacturing facility. This is an outstanding opportunity for a committed and skilled graduate with creative flair and project management skills.

Project Description

The digital arena is going to become increasingly important for our business and we need to make sure our offering and online presence reflects our brand and allows us to meet our ambitions. This is a significant project which will allow us to enhance our knowledge of digital platforms, as well as create and nurture key relationships with the online departments for key customers.

Placement Objectives

You will bring drive and initiative to the project while receiving good support from the internal marketing team and in working closely with our external web and media agencies. 

Role Description

Website development and maintenance (30%)

  • Create and managing the overall annual content plan to drive traffic to the website
  • Responsible for creating, editing, posting, updating, and removing outdated content – you are the digital brand custodian
  • Responsible for highlighting Border’s CSR initiatives on the website
  • Maintain a relationship with the website agency, clearly managing project tasks and status calls to ensure continual development
  • Enhance the functionality of the to improve the user-journey and manage technical aspects of the website
  • Manage our SEO and improve organic search performance and goal-setting based on CTR, traffic etc
  • Monitor, analyse and report regularly on website performance and results
  • Share key insights and developments with the business

Social Media (40%)

Working with the business to ensure all social media efforts increase brand visibility and communicate our brand tone and message clearly to engage with customers, to:

  • Devise, implement and manage effective social media plans to communicate the Border brand and engage with our online community
  • Work with external and internal teams to plan the content across a range of digital platforms (Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/LinkedIn)
  • Own and manage scheduling of all digital activity and coordinate
  • Identify new opportunities and explore all new digital developments
  • Actively engage in all social media conversations, responding to customers, reviews and messages
  • Build and deliver strong, engaging and relevant digital content for our website and other platforms including and not limited to videos, imagery, stories, etc
  • Closely monitor and analyse activity against key metrics and targets

Online advertising/partnership working (30%)

Working with the media buying agency, ensure that our online presence is strong. Work to include: 

  • Ensure that our brand is well represented on online portals, working with retailers/wholesalers to ensure our product is highlighted and promoted via their channels
  • Explore the correct use of Content marketing/ Paid search (PPC) / Email Marketing and advise and implement strategy
  • Manage our SEO and improve organic search performance and goal-setting based on CTR, traffic and conversions
  • Create and manage dashboard of all online metrics and KPI’s – reporting and analysing on results and making clear recommendations
  • All planned activity to generate awareness, increase brand visibility and improve brand loyalty


Ideally, you will have a good under graduate degree in a relevant discipline

Placement benefits

The business has ongoing and genuine commitments to the local community. At peak production times, we employ around 200 staff, primarily from the local community.

We supply all of the UK major multiples and have steadily increased our sales and shelf space with them year on year.
