Placement summary

Angus Dundee Distillers is looking to place a talented graduate at our Coatbridge site to assist with a project which will focus on our Engineering Projects and New Product Development systems. This is a 12 month placement and is ideally suited for a graduate with an engineering qualification and keen interest in learning more about the whisky industry.

Project Description

This is an important business project for us, as once implemented, the new system will help us to improve efficiency and flexibility which will have a positive impact on the whole of the Coatbridge site. Specifically, you will be tasked with identifying, specifying and sourcing all aspects of materials and machinery required to facilitate the introduction of both Process Improvements & New Products in to the site.

In addition, the placement will allow us to bring new knowledge and fresh perspective into the company and in a well-established industry, this is a very important development for us.

Placement Objectives

The introduction of the new system will allow us to derive performance efficiency gains at the site.
With the operation being more efficient and flexible this will give the company the opportunity to tender for more business. Once more business is secured this will have a positive effect on the site P&L.

Role Description

Your work on this project will compliment tasks being delivered by the Sales, Marketing, Planning, Production, Engineering and Compliance teams as well as liaising with external Machine and Material suppliers to ensure we have the appropriate equipment capability for all current and future product development at site. 

Main Tasks:

  • Set Engineering Standards and Specifications
  • Partake in the overseeing of New Product Production Trials
  • Drive Process Improvement Projects
  • Focus on all mandatory legislative tasks and job planning of all tasks associated with system development and implementation

Qualifications

Engineering degree, preferably with a mechanical bias.

Skills / Experience

Essential Skills

  • Experience of a similar role, either during study or post-study
  • Appreciation for what is required to work effectively in the manufacturing industry
  • Sound knowledge of all MS Office packages
  • Confident communicator
  • Project management capability

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of workplace Environmental and/or Health/Safety best practice

Angus Dundee distillers has been supplying whisky to its customers for over 50 years. The company owns two distilleries Tomintoul in the Speyside valley and Glencadam in the East Highlands, there is also a maturation and bottling plant in Coatbridge on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The bottling plant has 3 main automatic bottling lines and 3 smaller dedicated luxury production lines and has seen significant growth in recent years. The current capacity of the bottling site is approx. 9 million cases per year.
